Each year County Line Church selects an international ministry partner to receive funds through the Joy to the World Offering. This year’s recipient is Global Disciples. In short, Global Disciples partners with pastors in the areas of discipleship training, leadership development, and small business development. You can learn more about this ministry on their website at globaldisciples.org.
Below is an excerpt taken from the “What’s In Your Hand?” book, published by Global Disciples. In the coming weeks we will share the stories of people who have experienced the “What’s In Your Hand?” training and running a business to support their families and churches.
Don’t Despise the Small Beginnings…
Though Wibi lives in Africa and p lives in Asia, they are two church planters following a similar path.
Wibi dreams of the day when he will have a small computer repair and accessory shop. Right now, he goes from house to house to business—repairing computers while building his business and reputation. Wibi is making many friends and sharing the Gospel in the communities he serves, and God is using the business to draw people to Himself. Already, a small fellowship is meeting every Tuesday night for Bible study. It’s a step toward Wibi’s goal of starting a church.
Wibi is also being generous with what God has given him. “God has also helped me train a few people on how to repair computers in their various communities.”
…Because God Causes the Increase
Kiet is an alumnus of a discipleship-mission training program. When he heard about the small business training, he asked the director if he could attend. “I don’t have the gifts of a church planter,” he said, “but as God blesses my business, I will be generous in supporting the discipleship training.”
During the training, Kiet developed a busi- ness plan for a computer shop. Realizing that the maximum start-up grant of $300 plus his personal resources were insufficient to open a shop, he chose not to despise small beginnings. He bought a bag and the tools he needed to make repairs, and he began servicing computers. When a computer was beyond his help, he assisted the customer to get a computer according to the customer’s needs and budget. His reputation for quality service grew, and after a time he opened a
small repair shop, adding employees and computer sales. Eventually, he even opened a second shop!
Kiet didn’t forget his promise to be generous in supporting the discipleship training. With God’s help, the business and his giving has grown to the point that he has been able to underwrite all expenses of one cycle of discipleship training.
If you are not faithful with what you have been given, who will give you more? But if you are faithful, you will be entrusted with more.
