Each year County Line Church selects an international ministry partner to receive funds through the Joy to the World Offering. This year’s recipient is Global Disciples. In short, Global Disciples partners with pastors in the areas of discipleship training, leadership development, and small business development. You can learn more about this ministry on their website at globaldisciples.org.
Below is an excerpt taken from the “What’s In Your Hand?” book, published by Global Disciples. In the coming weeks we will share the stories of people who have experienced the “What’s In Your Hand?” training and running a business to support their families and churches.
PINEAPPLES AND WATERMELON
For Ita, selling pineapples and watermelons at the open air market has given him many opportunities to interact with people. He’s always looking for a chance to share Christ with his customers, and he often invites them to church.
When people need credit, Ita helps them, and he often shares his food with people who have no money. The leaders of the church have recognized his growth; they trust Ita is truly committed to growing the church through the business. He has gained their confidence so much, in fact, that they have entrusted him with mentoring and discipling the youth.
In appreciation for his work, the church has provided Ita with a home and land to grow vegetables so that he no longer needs to rent. The people of the neighboring housing estate buy his vegetables, and now he’s sharing Jesus with them.
FAITH TO GROW AND FACE CHALLENGES
Bakari, the director of a discipleship-mission training program, also took the Global Disciples small business training. God gave him and his wife, Eshe, the vision to re-locate among an unreached people group and minister to them through a business.
Their first business plan was for a tea shop, which quickly grew into something more: the “Glorious Green Grocers Shop.”Together Bakari and Eshe seek to serve the community. Their customers are mainly women purchasing for their households. In a couple years, seven women came to faith in Christ and since then the church has continued to grow, with an average of 60-70 people attending.
Eshe borrowed money with plans to expand the business, but she also gave half to the church to purchase additional chairs to welcome newcomers. Over the last year, they’ve faced the challenge of high inflation. Please pray for Bakari and Eshe as they continue to minister faithfully, even in difficult times.
